• Scaled Agile & Large Scale Scrum: Links

Scrum is designed for teams of 3-9 people. What to do when projects or units are larger? Scaling Agile and Scaling Scrum offer solutions for this. Im Book: Organization in a digital world Malte Foegen and Christian Kaczmarek describe how agile principles can be applied to large projects, units or entire organizations.

  • Large Scale Scrum: Scaling Framework for Large Products

LeSS: Large Scale Scrum The approach of Large Scale Scrum (LeSS) is to leave Scrum as it is - and run certain Scrum events together. In LeSS, Sprint Planning One and Sprint Review are done together. Each team has its own Sprint Planning Two and Retrospective. In addition, there is a joint retrospective of all teams.

  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe): Framework for agile scaling

The Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe®) is the most common framework for scaling Scrum or agile - in other words, for living it on a "large scale". SAFe offers agile solutions for all levels of an organization: from teams to departments to corporate management. Start now with SAFe Give Malte Foegen a call. "We support you in making agile collaboration work smoothly, even with multiple teams."

  • SAFe is not the Problem

The other scaling models are wrong and useful, too. The sentence “Models are wrong – but useful” applies to other scaling models, too. (We call some “frameworks”, but for my article here, I stick to the term model.) Large Scale Scrum (LeSS) is great, too. Scrum@Scale is useful. I like Appelo’s “unfix organizational patterns”, too.

  • What is Scaled Agile?

If you want the values and principles of Agile for your organization, then the way to scale should also be Agile. Therefore, the path to a "Scaled Agile" organization is through an Agile Transformation. Scrum is primarily about one team and one product. We talk about scaling Scrum in the case of multiple teams and/or multiple products.

  • What are agile methods?

LeSS Large Scale Scrum (LeSS) provides a consistent agile solution to work with multiple tightly coupled Scrum teams together on a joint product. SAFe The Scaled Agile Framework - SAFe - is a scalable and configurable framework that enables lean & agile work with multiple teams or across the entire organization. The coupling of the teams is less tight.

  • Descaling instead of scaling: Why scaled agility should simplify the organization.

“Agile” methods, on the other hand, distribute this leadership in terms of content and process, in Scrum for example to team roles and events. Both are formed by a charter: the Scrum Guide. Or organization-specific adaptations… In Scrum (about) seven development team members work together with a Product Owner (PO) and a Scrum Master (ScM). A PO and a ScM can work with more than one team.
